Referring to your letter of the 10th instant, and to previous correspondence respecting the selection of 7 Police Constables for service in Hong Kong, I have the honour to state that we have applied to the Metropolitan Police for permission to recruit from that Force, and we understand that a Notice has been issued in the Police Orders, asking for Volunteers up to the 25th instant.
Mr Horspool is however returning to Hong Kong in the P.&O.Steamer of the 23rd instant, so that he will be unable to complete the recruiting, and he has now applied for full instead of half pay from the date of his originally intended departure viz: the 14th of October, up to the 25th.
